The Rolf Luft Research Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology (RLRC) is a vital part of Karolinska Institutet, having its own defined research building at the Karolinska University Hospital. The infrastructure within the RLRC offers an excellent research and training environment. The RLRC is well funded from the Swedish Research Council, the European Community, Novo Nordisk Foundation, private donations and industry. The researchers at the RLRC have ongoing collaborations, as well as take part in networks and consortia, with a number of the most excellent universities within Europe, the USA and Korea.

RLRC is a world-leading research centre for pancreatic islet cell biology applying state-of-the-art technologies to elucidate the molecular basis of diabetes mellitus and its complications. The overall goal is to identify, characterize and validate novel diabetes-related proteins as future drug targets, and to develop new diagnostic methods. Recently an in vivo imaging platform has been developed enabling studies of signal-transduction non-invasively, longitudinally at single cell resolution in the living organism.
